National Police Chief Da'i Bachtiar told reporters in Jakarta Friday that Imam Samudra confessed to bombings in Bali, Jakarta and other places. The chief said Mr. Samudra decided when and where to place the bombs that killed more than 190 people at Bali nightclubs. The suspect was captured on a bus in West Java. Officials say he is a leading member of Jemaah Islamiyah, a regional terrorist group linked to al-Qaida. Authorities say they believe 10 to 12 people were involved in the bombing plot. They say Mr. Samudra identified one of them as Iqbal, a suicide bomber who detonated the first of the two explosions. That relatively small blast occurred at a bar named Paddy's, and was followed seconds later by a huge car-bomb explosion at the nearby Sari Club. Another suspect in custody, Amrozi, is said to have confessed to owning the vehicle that carried the explosives for blowing up the Sari Club.
