Firefighters say 35-40 days to cap Iraqi oil fires

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KUWAIT CITY, March 22 (Reuters) - Fires burning at oil wells in southern Iraq could be capped in 30-45 days, while damage to Iraqi oil export terminals appears minimal, a member of a U.S. firefighting team said on Saturday.

The leader of a team from Houston, Texas-based Boots and Coots International Well Control, contracted by the U.S. government to control fires at around seven wells in southern Iraq's Rumaila oil field, said he had not visited the wells yet but expected work would be quick.

"I would say 30-45 days, we'll have it all done," said the firefighter, who like other members of his team had been told by U.S. military officials not to reveal his full name.
