Cpl. Travis Eichelberger was catching a cat nap in a fox hole in Iraq when he was awakened by a fellow soldier who very well could have saved his life. "All he remembers is, 'Eich! Eich! Eich!,' and picking him up by his arms and trying to pull him, and then he remembers the tank going over him," said Kim Eichelberger, his mother. Eichelberger was flown to Germany. The 21-year-old homecoming king, who has a broken leg, a crushed pelvis and extensive internal injuries, was laying in a hospital bed in critical condition on Monday. "He said his knees look like pancakes, and even though he's a Marine and he's a very tough Marine, right now he's scared because he doesn't know if he's going to walk again," his mother said. His sister was scared when her older brother left for the Middle East, but she was happy he would be coming home. "I'm just glad that he's ... I don't want to say that he's hurt, but I'm glad he's in a position where he can come back home, because everybody misses him so much. We were just really close, and I just want to see my brother," said Kerri Eichelberger. He could be flown back to a Maryland hospital by the end of the week, where his family will meet him. "I'd really like to thank the Lord for sparing his life," said his father, Martin Eichelberger. "I really think it's a blessing in disguise."
