Diana's ex-flame calls for full inquiry into her death
PTI[ SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2003 07:17:55 PM ] LONDON : Amid the controversy raised by Paul Burrell, former butler of Princess Diana, her former lover James Hewitt has called for a full inquiry into her death, saying that he was not convinced it was just an accident.
Hewitt spoke out last night after royal butler Paul Burrell revealed how Diana wrote a letter, 10 months before she died, claiming there was a plot to kill her in a car crash.
Former Life Guards officer Hewitt, who had a five-year affair with the Princess while she was married to Prince Charles, told the News of the World : "She maintained that sort of suspicion all the time I knew her, "she'd say, 'I think I'm being bugged. I think I'm being followed. I think I'm being tracked.' "It was something that was evidently on her mind."
Burrell's revelations including controversial private correspondence from Earl Spencer and Prince Philip sparked an impassioned attack from Prince William. He accused the former aide of "cold betrayal" of his mother.
Hewitt himself has had his share of critics.
Asked whether the butler was right in divulging Diana's secrets in a tell-all book, Hewitt said "I'll leave that to his conscience," a report in the tabloid said.
