Exit polls give glimpse of voters' opinions By Associated Press Tuesday, November 2, 2004
WASHINGTON - Exit polls taken today find many voters believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. The surveys suggest that slightly more voters trust President Bush [related, bio] to handle terrorism than Democrat John Kerry [related, bio]. But most voters say the country is headed in the wrong direction, and those voters overwhelmingly are backing Kerry. The polls also indicate there may not have been as many new and young voters as experts had predicted. One in ten voters cast ballots for the first time and fewer than ten percent were young voters. Interviews with voters also showed that Kerry was doing better among women and independents than Bush. The exit surveys were done for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.
