Sarkozy wants EADS to 'expand its shareholders' pact' 07.12.07, 7:37 AM ET

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - French president Nicolas Sarkozy would like aeronautics group EADS to 'expand its shareholders' pact' in order to finance the launch of new aircraft and overcome the difficulties caused by the strong euro, Elysee spokesman David Martinon said.
Speaking at the weekly press conference at the Elysee palace, Martinon said it would be good for EADS 'to expand its shareholders' pact to include new partners, preferably industrial'.
He added that talks were continuing with Germany over changes to the group's governance structure.
Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are to hold further discussions over the future of EADS at a meeting in Toulouse on July 16.
EADS is currently owned by a number of French and German private and public investors; Lagardere holds 15 pct and is reducing its stake to 7.5 pct, the French government has 15 pct, DaimlerChrysler (nyse: DCX - news - people ) owns 15 pct and a further 7.5 pct is owned by a consortium of German investors including various German states.
