Dow Jones Business News NBC President Lack to Become Chief of Sony Music Unit Friday January 10, 12:09 pm ET By Joe Flint, Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal
NEW YORK -- Andrew Lack, president and chief operating officer of NBC, is leaving the network to become head of Sony Corp.'s music division, replacing Tommy Mottola, according to NBC executives. NBC isn't planning to fill Mr. Lack's position.
Although Mr. Lack has spent the bulk of his career in advertising and television and has no music experience, he does have a close relationship with Sir Howard Stringer, the chief executive of Sony Corp. of America. The two worked together for many years at CBS, where Sir Howard was a top executive.
Mr. Lack's departure from NBC has been rumored almost since he started the job in 2001 as he clashed with Bob Wright, the veteran NBC chief executive over turf and management issues. NBC is a unit of General Electric Co. (NYSE:GE - News) .
